SFxT: Mechanics Preview by Maximilian

I've been pre occupied with TTT2 and haven't had the chance to play SFxT yet. However, Maximillian has done a great job explaining the gameplay mechanics in this video. Check it out to get a good idea of how this game is functioning at this point.

I doubt Koreans are going to play this, because 2-D fighting games are pretty much dead there...

I am very impressed by ldMaxi's ability to explain alot of the game mechanics. I personally think that the charge moves will get put into the final build of the game. I agree with ldMaxi though in that later down the line, perhaps via a patch, it might be made more useful. But who knows, some players might find a use for it. It seems like Marvel VS Capcom 3 with the button chains, and it reminds me of Street Fighter Alpha 3. Alpha 3 had air juggles, but you could press 3 punches to do a flip and escape. Alpha 3 was alot like Tekken. Alpha 3 had counter hits. Looking back at Alpha 3, I personally did not care much for Tekken mechanics put into a 2-D game. But, I did have fun with Alpha 3. I liked Alpha 2 more though, the game before it without Tekken mechanics implemented into it. But, basically, it looks like Street Fighter 4 with new Tekken characters and new combos and stuff. Which is pretty much what it is, lol.

i wanna be excited about this game....but knowing ono-chin's abilities (or lack thereof) at balancing a fighting game i'm kinda worried. Already the game seems like a Sagat-fest which apparently is hard for ono-chin NOT to do...still on the fence, but I'm kinda hype!

@snowboots

SSF4 was actually well balanced, but balance overall is beginning to get really overrated. The majority of fighters back in the day (and even today) aren't even balanced at all yet there weren't nearly as much complaints about it. Most unbalanced games were still playable and even good. Yeah I'm all for balance but there's no point always demanding it, particularly on a developers first attempt on a completely new system. Let's just hope that a good chunk of the cast will be viable

On another note, the feedback for the game seems generally positive so far, and Hwoarang looks real sick. I'm starting to get high hopes for this game

No I agree super street fighter 4 was great! But i hear some issues exist for AE (haven't played it yet). And for the fighters of the past being un-balanced yet totally awesome; i hear ya. TTT was a Jin, Heihachi, Kazuya and Ogre fest!! . All I'm saying is that in this day and age the unbalanced fighter should be an endangered species. I mean if you look at all the tools devs have at their disposal to balance a fg its nearly.....ridiculous NOT to address balance issues.

@Forest: That wasn't Ldmaxi talking. That was Maximillian. Two different guys. Yeah, Ldmaxi is known as Maximillian on TZ, but the guy in this vid ain't him.

Im calling ARIS a BITCH for his rant on WNF, sure his concerns are valid and my game is Tekken first and foremost, but his claims were both unreasonable to a degree and downright ignorant in some regards

To dismiss Ski when he is directly referencing broken games made by capcom completely defies logic.

Just because you say there is a difference between MCV2 being broken and MK does not make it true in any way.
The game has problems and you calling them out in of itself is completely reasonable and SHOULD be done, but to you to call them and say they should be doing stuff that NO JAPANESE devs ever bother to do is as you say RETARDED

@drew, The only thing I'm asking NRS to do that Jap devs do is create a tournament playable FG. They are obviously unable. Block infinites and MVC2 gambit glitch style problems are plaguing MK. They are obviously not able to create a tournament worthy FG. If you are unaware of these problems and how they make a FG unplayable competitively, perhaps you are the ignorant one.

I appreciate your response and while I agree with you to an extent, I think that you are magnifying things in a bit of an unreasonable way. I am not an MK guy and while I like the game, I will live if it does not succeed. We see all the time Marvel DHC glitch (arguably the most popular tourney game out now) which has been present forever and has barely been addressed, so I dont know if that means capcom is incapable of making fighting games or just does not give a shit either

and I know your ultimate goal is to say "none of this is acceptable in any fighting game" which again the core belief is absolutely correct. I think you are approaching it with a bit of a double standard. While there ability to make a great fighting is Obviously still behind the premier FG devs, their support for the game(which at this point based on their actions I think is safe to say is genuine) has already gone far and above what we have seen from any team in the past.

hopefully I'll see ya at an upcoming tourney (ECT? doubtful) as I just care about the games, and at the end of the day anonymous online callouts is a bitch move for certain

oh and Indie rock is what real men listen to ; )

good podcast a
