EVO Tournament Lineup Suggests SC5 is the 3D Fighting Game to Play

For years now, Evolution has dictated which games would be considered main stream fighting games. The EVO staff has recently announced which fighting games would be included in their tournament lineup this year. As many of us expected, Tekken did not make the cut. However, Soul Calibur 5 did. Soon after this announcement, it was also announced that Namco will be adding pot bonuses and support for some of the EVO qualifier tournaments. This info makes me think that Tekken will take the back burner for the rest of the year and SC5 will be the 3D game to play. I'm a fan of both games and I sincerely hope that SC5 turns out to be a great game. I will do my best to cover both Tekken and Soul Calibur in the coming months. On the topic of streaming. As I mentioned before, we were not given official permission to stream TTT2 during the location test at Super Arcade. We will however be streaming SC5 tournaments when the game is released. Thanks for your continued support.

Well. We'll see how hype Soul Calibur 5 really is at the end of this month. I'm willing to give it another shot since the 4 was the only one I really gave as hot before so I haven't been burned as many times.

At least Namco is bringing Tag 2 cabinets to Winter Brawl and Final Round, and who knows where else, so it's not like Tekken is completely on the back burner.

I'm just glad to see Namco put some serious support behind SCV. And it's good to hear that you guys will be streaming SCV when it comes out. I miss the stream on Fridays.

Dunno how well SCV will turn out, SFxT isn't looking too good so far but of the rest of the games on that list KOF13 is the best by far. Hope more and more real players will get behind it.

The Toronto title/date is wrong, NeoRussell has confirmed this. Toryuken is actually Canada East Championships and will be held in Toronto Ontario, Canada May 11th-13th

Before getting a TT2 Machine; Omg it would be such great PR we'll stream they're silly not to bla bla
After getting a TT2 Machine; Fuck you guys now we can play it each to ones own, Lock thread, oops. No Harada nobody cares, fuck updating the site I'm playing, Nah I can't be bothered really fighting for it, vague definitions, no updates or word of what's happening for a month

@reality, I'm not sure what any of that means, but we did not get official permission to stream during the location test. A twitter response just doesn't cut it. Harada has very little to do with the process. We are still going to try to stream at least once before the machine is gone.

Sad that there will be no Tekken.
I think I will not follow Evo this year because Tekken is the only FG I am interested in.

Aris: Who are you waiting to get an "offical permission" from? Do you even know? Do you expect it to come out of the blue? If not, who have you been in contact with and what have you done to further the situation the latest 3 weeks?

Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 4:00 AM | Unregistered CommenterReality

@reality, It's pretty forward of you to demand such details on a matter like this. I mean perhaps if this were a service you payed for, or that you were owed, that would be a different story. Our contact is the gentleman who works for Namco of Japan's arcade division whose name does not need to be disclosed. He also does not speak English which means we have to go through a translator. He is the one who explained the rules to us and he has very little to do with Harada. We will likely stream on the last Friday before we have to give the game back. Try not to be so demanding amigo. Sometimes your'e just gonna have to take my word for it.
