Hands On TTT2 Kunimitsu Impressions

After a few hours of hands on playtime with Kunimitsu, I thought I would report on what I noticed.
Kunimitsu is the character that old school Yoshi players have been waiting for. Her move list seems long and tricky with multiple moves that are very evasive and allow her to move quickly around your opponent. When further explored, she seems to be a solid character with useful tools that are very unique. She seems to be very setup based, with a naturally long wall carry on her juggles and extremely good movement. Keep in mind, these are initial impressions.

Movement
Kuni’s movement is exceptionally good. Both her back dash and forward dash are larger and faster than average. Her side step seems relatively generic though.

General Safety
Kuni seems to be a very high risk, high reward character. For this reason, it’s hard to say how good she will actually be later on. Many of her key moves are very unsafe on block.

Punishment
i9? - ff+4, The old school Fubuki knee is back. We tested it at 9 frames to impact, meaning it will punish Steve’s df2. However, it could be faster. This tool alone makes her punishment better than average. It hits mid, does around 18 points damage and is at least -16 on block.
i10 - 1,1 and 1,2 seem to be her 10 frames. The only thing special to report here is that her f+1 seems to have as much range as Bob’s jabs. Not sure if f+1 is still i10 though.
i13 - f+2,3. This is a high high NC that will wall splat. Sorta reminds me of T6 Asuka’s 2,3. This string does not jail.
i15 - uf+3 works very much like Yoshi’s Samurai knee. Crush properties are also very finicky like Yoshi’s. However, Kuni has an extension which is done by uf+3,4. This reminds me of Lars’ uf+3. It has a second hit which can be used for a wall carry in combos but is extremely unsafe on block.
i16? - df+2. Kuni’s df+2 has longer than average range. Other than that, seems generic. Doesn’t launch crouchers but safe on block. Not sure if it’s tagable.

While Standing Punishment
i11 - WS 4, Kuni’s WS 4 has short range and seems to be slightly worse than an average WS4.
i13? - WS 1,1, this is also a bound move. Reminds me of Lars’ WS 2,1.
i15? - WS 3, Seems to low crush. Reminds me of Feng’s WS 3 but with less range and more flipping.
i15 - uf+3/uf+3,4. Samurai knee/Lightning screw with shitty crush properties.

Bound Moves
WS 1,1 - Similar to Lars’ WS 2,1 but with less range. Doesn't work off of FC df+3.
f+3~1,2,4 - Bound string used in combos.
df+1+2 - Two hit B, hits low to the ground.
d+1 - Reminds me of Armor King’s d+2.

Homing Moves
Standing 3 is the only homing move I found. She has Yoshi’s old 3,4 and 3,d+3.

Stances
Kuni has several “stances” in which an initial movement can result in multiple follow up options.

f+3
Kuni dashes forward very quickly covering two character distances. This movement can be canceled into crouch by holding Down. the cancel looks like Asuka’s f+2~d. You can also transition into this stance with f+4~f, A mid hitting knee. There are several moves out of this stance including a 1+2 throw which leaves you back to back with slight frame advantage.

Back Turned
Kuni has several ways to transition into BT. One of which is bb+3+4 which causes her to do a Yoshi style spin backwards, recovering in BT. She now has a flare like double low along with several other moves. Did not test if movement was possible while back turned.

d1+2
Disappearing act from TTT1 but with follow ups. This avoids some mids and I was told it has partial invincibility. Several follow ups are possible including a dive kick from the top of the screen.

Lows
d+3 - This low slide reaches almost 3 character distances away. It is negative on hit and launch punishable on block. Reminds me of Dragunov’s CD 3.
db+4 - Unseeable low. Looks like King’s df+3 but with more range and it also does more damage. -13? on block and negative on hit.
FC df+3 - This is the one you guys have been waiting for. Identical to Yoshi and Kuni’s old sweep. It is also now possible to get a bound combo as a follow up on hit but the combo is VERY unreliable. Good mix up with FC uf+3. The combo is FC df+3, WS 4, df+3, f+4~f,1,2,4 B!.

Returning Moves
f+1+4 - You can still crouch to escape the second part of the throw.
b+1,1,1... - Seems to be similar or the same as Yoshi’s.
ff+1+2 - The new way to perform her UB stab. It is now high.
ff+2 - Launch punishable.
db+3,3,3,3,4 - Same as Yoshi’s.
u+3+4 - Same as Yoshi’s.
u+1+2 - Seems to be the same as TTT1.
SS 3+4 - Didn’t use it much but it seems to be the same as TTT1.

Peculiar Moves
ub+3 - One of her many weird flip type moves.
u+3 - another flip type move. This one jumps way over your opponent and can get you away from the wall.
WS 2 - A very slow move which does not have an obvious use.
uf+4 - High hitting shitty version of ATP. Very disappointing.
b+1+3/b+2+4 - Punch counters. When you succeed Kuni disappears then comes down from the top of the screen with a stab. Seems very shitty.

Overall Kunimitsu seems like a fairly strong character with better than average block punishment. The most exciting thing about her to me is her large move list filled with peculiar moves. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments and I will do my best to answer them.

Does she have any decent NCC strings? Like Drag 121, Drag f+(2),4, Wang 112, Marduk 2,d+1+2 etc.

Are the unblockables back (ff,n+2 and b+2)? I thought I saw one of them in the vid. If so, are the high or mid?

I didn't find any NCCs that were off of jabs, though 1,2,4 might be an NCC. Its a high high mid string.

Her df1,3 is a mid high NCC that does not Jail. Similar to Drags df1,4 but it is a launcher. Her df+1 seems to be i13 or i14.

Her new UB seems slow, linear and high. It is similar to her old b2. I didn't find any other UBs and we did not have access to a move list.

since when is marduks 2d1+2 a NCC?
in t6 its definitely not

back to topic
1.is uf34 high/low crush like lars uf3?
2.any followup or nice oki after punshparry?
3.what do you think is the dmg of 11, 12 and f23?
4.no 12frames or 14frames punishers?
5.what is her long range punisher against heihachis ff2 for example?
6.does she have a generic ufN4 launcher?
7.any nice setup after ff4? i mean 18dmg is less compared to -16on block
8.does she have a generic d1 (yoshi dont have it -.-)

cant wait to play her xD

thanks Aris! Are you going back at all? Her UBs were: f,f,N+2 // b+2 // d/b+2 // u+1+2 // b+1+2. Also try them from the Haze and f~3 stances if you get a chance. Curious!

I'm guessing 1,2,4 gives a W! and is around -12 to -13? And does df+1,3 track like Drag's df+1,4? Thanks for all the info btw, really good stuff.

Did you happen to test her fire breath? Is it even in the build you played?

her df+3 looks really good i hope that people not cry or bitch about her , cuz if they do then namco might nerf her which is going to be really bad

As far as general gameplay style goes, does it look likely that Kunimitsu can be utilized as a "hit-and-run" type of character? (a.k.a. more options on defense [dodges/evades] compared to the rest of the cast)

I know it's still too early to tell for sure, but any hint or impression of her ideal playstyle would be appreciated.

Qdogg:

the b2 and the ffn2 unblockables are not there. The unblockable you're talking about now replaced by ff1+2 with different animation and it's high. It's same speed and range as her old ffn2.

Aris:

there few more returning moves that you missed. 1+2 mid knd punch that yoshi inherited from Kuni in T4. Then she still has that two hit unblockable (double downward vertical slash) same animation and still pretty bad range. That one is bb1+2 and is now blockable (not talking about 22). She still has her little mid jump kick f3+4.

Df2 is i16. Db4 is -13 on block.

She has another homing move that is far superior to her 3 homing move. It's b2. Its very much like Lars b1. Similar animation except she using her knife. It's fast, safe, mid, knd, and does pretty good damage.
