Namco has provided us with a behind the scenes look at the development of Soul Calibur 5. It will be very interesting to see how the game unfolds from this point on. I'm very much looking forward to EVO this year as I've heard that the team will be in attendance and there is a chance for a playable build. Check out the video below.

I am really getting enthusiactic about this game can't wait to see more of it.
Project Soul will be there. They're also doing an exclusive reveal at EVO along with an exclusive reveal the week before at Comic-Con.

I hope that there is a build that people can play at EVO. I'm hoping for big things with SC5 and hope that alot of people get into it competitively.
nice!
I think us at evo are getting the way better deal
I'm so glad that I saw the GOD like artist behind the great concept art of SC and Tekken, Takuji Kawano
I'm actually pretty hype for SC5. I like the return of Critical Edge. I hope they bring back Soul Charge and get rid of Soul Gauge and equipment destruction. Those are pretty unnecessary.
I actually like how they're getting rid of many characters. There were way too many characters in SC4 that were irrelevant. I'm glad to see more of a focused attempt this time around. I think this game will be really good.
Meh. Skeptical.
That guy who claims to know alot about Soul Calibur is wrong. The first in the series was "Soul Edge." It came out before "Soul Blade." Look it up.
Soul Edge was originally released in the arcades. When that game was ported to the PlayStation, it was relabled as Soul Blade.
I don't see Soul Charge coming back since the things you could do with Soul Charge can now be done using the Critical Gauge. The Soul Gauge has already been removed. Equipment destruction should also be gone since it was tied somewhat to that mechanic and not in the current SC5 build. Plus Daishi also mentioned that it was a bit much.
The Soul Gauge was a great addition. All it needed was a bit of tweaking. As long as they add something that is a counter for turtling, I'll be happy.
Half of the cast will be new and half will be returning characters in SC5, however none of the characters in SC4 are irrelevant. Outside of Hilde and Algol who've been banned for a few years now and bonus characters, all of the characters on the roster are used competitively. There's plenty of people who have a deep character loyalty to someone in the game. And all of the characters are very unique from each other. It's not like Street Fighter where it has a ton of shoto clones for no damn reason.
And there's people still skeptical about SC5, so try it out when they start taking playable builds around to tournaments for people to try.
I'm actually glad to see the team doing some much-needed PR and getting their game out there. Even though I'm still wary, I really like seeing that this team is giving the game their all-out effort. Do more stuff like this and even if the game isn't as good as I want it, I may support this series in the future.
@ Malice WOW I can not believe just how ignorant you are! Soul Edge was released on PSone as Soul Edge. It was before Soul Blade.
I didn't like Soul Gauge at all; it felt like a lazy way to encourage offense. Many games do that without external mechanics. Namco could have just tweaked moves and blocking to make it more offense-based. They didn't have to throw in that asspull mechanic.
As for characters, I'm actually torn. I can understand that people use most of the characters in SC4, and I know I would be irritated if my favorite character was removed. But they're making way for new characters, who might be much better and more varied than the SC4 crew, which I'm looking forward to. Do we really need Amy and Raphael? Do we really need Rock and Astaroth? Do we really need Sophitia, and Lizardman? They all have diffrences, sure, but is it worth having multiple characters slots taken up by them, as opposed to unique characters? I'm not so sure.
And for what it's worth, Soul Edge came out on arcades, then Soul Blade came out on PS1 later. It was only called Soul Edge in Japan.

Whoops.
@Forest why you trying to come at me wrong like that for? Only the JP PS1 port was named Soul Edge. Plus I don't live in Japan (at least not anymore) so like I said, it was Soul Edge in the arcade and retitled as Soul Blade for the PS1 port, so why you nitpicking about that?
I'll even show you my copy just for you.

Oh! lead Modeler using Maya Namco Japan Maya powered? These trailer got me thinking how different things are now from the arcade days for the US. Today we have trailers of the people developing the games we are waiting to play. We get to see where the game is made the faces of staff which is contrast to arcade days. Back then you knew when a new fighting game was coming out the day your arcade got the cabinet lol. Well I guess you could buy magazines to tell you a game is coming out but I was a poor kid saved all that lunch money for the arcade lol.
Tag 2 is a no go for arcades in US...sigh....so I'd doubt SC5 will be in arcades (US) but is there information on this? I think I answered my own already question lol.
@ Malice I have a copy exactly like that too.
BUT, there was a completely seperate game released for PSone called Soul Edge. The CD was purple. I saw it with my own two eyes. You or anyone else will never convince me otherwise!
Looks up at Forest's statemen:
SMH this guy is an idiot. They are the same game but due to "EDGE" copyright issues it had to be changed to Soul Blade once it was released on console.

Back to the game though, this vid was a surprise to watch. I wish that the Soul Charge system could be re-implemented but I doubt it will. I want to see more of this game but I will have to wait till release or playable builds. Come on EVO I got some questions to ask!
