Tekken Revolution - Vote For New Characters To Be Added Into the Game

Well, this was certainly unexpected. Katsuhiro Harada has just put up a new facebook poll that allows series fans to vote for new characters to be added to Tekken Revolution. You get to decide between 10 new character concepts such as "Female Paul," "Giant Praying Mantis," "Female Vampire" and several other odd choices on the poll that you want added into the free-to-play title. When votes are tallied, the winners will be announced at the fighting game panel over at San Diego Comic Con on the 19th of July. You can find more information on this below.

Hello to all the members of the Tekken fan community out there! We have a very important and quite exciting event to announce.
TEKKEN REVOLUTION, our new free-to-play title for the PlayStation®3, has proved to be quite popular with the fans so we decided to unique and add some all new characters!
What do we mean by ‘unique new characters’? These are characters that existed previously in our undisclosed story setting materials, but have never made it into the game, or other unique ideas for characters that were proposed but never actually created. None of these characters have ever been playable in the series.
So, there are a few concepts, but it is not yet decided which ones we will actually make.

*Characters that are already planned to be released later in the series, obviously are not included in this list.

This event is a fan service project to allow everyone to take part in the process to decide which characters will make it into Tekken Revolution and to come up with something really unique!

PROCESS OF DECIDING CHARACTERS

1) The character concepts will be narrowed down to 3 by conducting a poll on the Facebook Tekken page. Anyone can vote, so make your vote count!
2) The Tekken development team will create character concept sketches for each of the three chosen characters.
3) The character concept will be chosen at the Fighting Panel at San Diego ComiCon on July 19th at 3pm by the audience and Tekken God, Harada-san(Twitter@Harada_TEKKEN). The method of selection will be a final vote, and discussion with members of the development team. We hope that the most vocal Tekken fanatics will show up to the panel. It’s your chance to speak your opinions directly to the development team!
4) Development of the chosen character will begin.
5) Release of chosen character in Tekken Revolution (timing of release is TBD, as the difficulty in development of the character depends on the concept chosen)
6) If the character proves to be popular after release, the chances of additional appearances in the Tekken series will increase!

(1) Sexy Female Tekken Force Character

A gorgeous and sexy female Tekken Force member, she is loyal to the Mishima Zaibatsu, regardless of who is in charge. As such, she was not a part of the rebellion started by Lars.
The original concept was proposed for Tekken 5, but the clothing was too revealing and the concept was scrapped for fears the rating would increase. The concept surfaced again for Tekken 6 but did not make the final cut.
There were several martial arts mentioned for this character, including Silat, Krav Maga, Savate, Taekkyeon, Systema, and Escrima.
If chosen, the design may need be altered in order to pass the ratings boards.

(2) Syake/Salmon

Originally planned for Tekken 3, punch buttons would cause the Salmon to flop around, and the kick buttons would make it release eggs, which was quite an idea at the time. However, arcades were still popular worldwide, and charging 100 yen (1 USD) per play with such a character was likely to be a problem. That, and the fact that character would be always be the target of Kuma, lead to the concept being scrapped.
If the Tekken 3 arcade board is hacked, you will notice there is placeholder data with the character’s name remaining. This has been discovered by a few hardcore fans in the past (video is on Youtube) . If, for some unforeseen reason, this character is actually chosen, development may be quite difficult.

(3) Female Vampire (A young girl, long imprisoned by the Rochefort family)

A young female vampire that has been imprisoned in a wing of the Rochefort Estate, where Lili was raised.
She has a dark personality, but her gothic attire and uncanny beauty are mesmerizing. During development of Tekken 6, she was proposed as a character that used an actual martial art, but also with fireballs, like a 2D fighting game character.
However, aside from Harada, a strange phenomena occurred in which many members got married or gave birth to children around the same time. As a result, not many staff were left at work to complete the character, and she was discarded. The concept was salvaged again during Tekken 6 BR, but the same strange phenomena occurred again and Harada locked the concept away in a safe, wanting to keep it secured within the development team since it (she) seems to bring good fortune.

(4) Shin Kamiya

A classmate of Jin Kazama who appeared in the 3DCG movie Tekken Blood Vengeance.
The fact that his implementation would impact the main story line, that he died in the movie, and that he doesn’t know any martial arts, make him a difficult character to be included in the game.
There were ideas to make him appear in the game as he was before he died, and also to have him be reborn as an immortal type of character.

(5) Tougou

Fellow Tekken Force member and friend of Lars Alexandersson, he joined Lars in the coup against the Mishima Zaibatsu.
He appears in Scenario Campaign in Tekken 6. His fighting style is similar to Lars’, but he also uses the sword on his waist for certain attacks.
He could also call in air strikes via his radio. Since he died in the game, he was never implemented as a playable character.

(6) Zombie Bride

A zombie bride to be in a wedding dress.
The idea first came up around Tekken 3 as the first fighting zombie in a game. The idea resurfaced again for Tekken 6, as the sister of Miguel, who was called in an air strike and came back to life.
Since the fighting style for a zombie would be quite difficult to create, the idea was scrapped.

(7) Female Paul

For some inexplicable reason, Paul is transformed into a girl, but the appearance is of a very cute girl. The concept was thrown out in 2 seconds, as it was too off-the-wall.

(8) Giant Praying Matis

During development of Tekken 3, a bug caused the joints of a character to move backwards, and the character model was deformed. It looked like it would be a strong fighter, so there was an idea to actually implement it, but the idea was discarded for lack of development time. Like with Syake/Salmon, the Insect blank data can be found when the Tekken 3 arcade board is hacked. This was also found by some very hardcore fans, and video can be found on Youtube.

(9) Average, run-of-the-mill Old Man

You average old man, like the one you find in almost any neighborhood. He is not a martial artist, so he is pretty weak.
It was an idea mentioned early in the series, and thrown out the instant it was mentioned.

(10) GANMI-chan

A teenage female Sumo wrestler who idolizes Ganryu.
The original idea was proposed for Tag 2, but was discarded 5 seconds later in order to focus on increasing the popularity of Ganryu.
A character sketch was completed several years ago, and the result was of a cute character, like you would find in Idol Master.

Most of these suggestions are utter crap! What is this? Some kind of joke? A flopping salmon? A zombie corpse bride? Giant mantis, is this Bloody Roar? I suppose a vampire is not as crazy, but I don't see a reason to start jumbling vampire mythology into the franchise. And among the feasible suggestions, Tougou is a boring alternative as a Lars clone with a sword is horribly unimaginative, girl Paul or Ganryu is plain stupid with no added value. I'm left with sexy Tekken Force woman as best choice, Shin as second and old man as a vague idea which with an actual profile of sorts might be okay. I welcome a new character I suppose, or actually I don't. With suggestions as bad as this, you have to ask what's going on in Harada-san's office, or at least what is the point of this poll.

Yeah, looking at the discriptions this might as well be a joke.
Don't they have better ideas?
The vampire would likely have a Lili-esque playstyle, we don't need another Lars, and female characters that are clones are stupid as well.

I'd like to mess around with a Salmon or Praying Mantis character, but for Online play or tournaments, such characters only hurt the game imo.

I bet the Old-Man would be retarded, the concept already sounds annoying (no Martial Arts style).

A cool idea would be a Wing Chun character!

these ARE basically just rejected character ideas, so of course they're pretty goofy. But tekken revolution is goofy too, so i think it's great. Giant praying mantis gets my vote. We could use some more animals up in here

No... Just No, what is this shit? I know Tekken can go biblical at times so why don't they add in a female devil or male angel? Shin Kamiya is a good suggestion though because I could see him doing some laser throwing moves from punches or kicks to separate him from Devil Jin's style, a vampire chick may be acceptable too, but I could come up which much better such as a Built MMA Woman, my idea for a female MMA Fighter comes from the character "Mary" from the Squaresoft games; "Tobal No.1 & 2".

Seriously Namco, I wouldn't mind seeing a Female Devil or Shin Kamiya.

>Female Vampire (A young girl, long imprisoned by the Rochefort family)
>During development of Tekken 6, she was proposed as a character that used an actual martial art, but also with fireballs, like a 2D fighting game character.

Now seeing as Vampire girls' fighting style would be based on a Real Martial Arts style as oppose to Lili's Tekken Original Martial Arts style. Plus the the use of fireballs would heavily imply she will NOT be a clone of Lili.

>Tougou
>His fighting style is similar to Lars’, but
>he also uses the sword on his waist for certain attacks.
>He could also call in air strikes via his radio.

Though it is mentioned that his fighting style would be similar to Lars lets keep in mind the Sword and Air Strikes. These alone show a great difference between the two. Not to mention the fact that he isn't a Mishima, so don't expect to see things from him like, "Super Saiyan Zeus!" and "Lighting Screw Kicks". Further more in Tekken games there have been many characters with similar bases but essentially did not become clones.
Consider the following.

Nina and Anna
Kunimitsu and Yoshimitsu
Kazuya, Heihachi, and Jinpachi
Jin and Devil Jin
Jun and Asuka
King and Armor King
Lee, Originally with Law and Paul moves
There for, don't expect to see much in common.

Tl:dr: These characters will not be clones.

There goes the integrity (yeah I said it fuck you) of the game. Might as well pack up the bags and make it an animefighter period now. In every single "vote" like this the character with the buzzwords 'sexy' 'hot girl' and 'tits' will win from fapping idiots who don't even play fightinggames. That's the demographic voting, don't kid yourselves.

Either bait or a very poor and unintentional and pessimistic opinion. Would you have been less offended if they used finer words like "Attractive" and "Lady"? If so I truly hope they apologize to you on your behalf.

I'd rather they'd apologize to your mom for carrying you as a crackbaby for 6 months (I take it you were early) but thanks for the friendly thought Amigo. Doesn't change the fact of what the sellingpoint is for these characters to the neogaf / 4chan tard community or what will happen if they continue down this line of character voting every time. Even the sumo girl is described as hot. Anyone who believes number four or five will be winners of this poll are crazy.

@Reality
Oh dear... I must say I am truly sorry you feel that way. However, allow me to ease your worries by respectfully informing you that I was indeed born on time and healthy. My mother has no history of drugs and they are very wonderful and outstanding people. There for your apologies will not be needed. Also i'm not sure what you getting at. Are you suggesting that creating characters that are female is destroying the game? Could you perhaps explain in detail how you feel? I woulde love to read it.

It seams that in their effort to appeal to wider audiences, Harada and Tekken team have forgot what made Tekken popular with wider crowds in the first place... and it weren't f*ucking salmons, giant matis or vampires teenage girls or whatever....

The secret behind Tekken's success was a combinations of cool characters designs (that often drew heavily from popular martial arts movies and related subculture) and good mix of real martial arts and flamboyant fictional fighting. And before some smartass tries to bring the issue of dumb animals, or other joke character into this, they are actually nothing more than exception that proves the rule: they were never popular character designs to begin with. And they were tolarable because they gave game some flavor; a little bit of silliness is good in small quantities...

But last few instalations of tekken have been nothing than silly with their "additions" and it needs to stop before tekken is officially labeled as some "silly anime franchise" altogether... cause thats not what the 90% of target demographic wants anyway... You wanna make successful character design? Fine, simply go watch some popular action martal arts movies until you find some inspiration and then look into real martial arts for some reference. Its that f*cking easy... or not because this actually does requires some effort put into research, while making characters straight from designers wet dreams or whatever doesn't....

@Slander
"Oh Dear" is something you can keep saying to your boyfriend after the reach around or the guys with pipes at your local chess team while you drop the soap.

Fuck you and your attempts of dominance through patronizing and belittling - it's easy to see right through. I'm not going to inform you further of my "very poor and unintentional and pessimistic opinion" while you pretend to be shocked that someone shows aggression towards your behavior. You're apparently too dumb to comprehend very simply context. Hey; You're either so dumb that you think that my post was against female characters in a fightinggame or you're simply hoping that I'll take the bait and you can continue down the line of "what's wrong with female characters being sexy?" path. Yeah, adding female characters to a game sure is empowering when the female sumo is a "cute character, like you would find in Idol Master.":
http://umichanime.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/The-Idolm@ster-2.jpg

You're still a crackbaby, your mother lied. I hope you die in a grease fire.

Mr.turtle gets it.

Say they were to add 5 new characters to the game, all of who are based on popular votes. Every single 'winner' would be voted forth of people trolling or just wanting to see boobs. We'll either get salmons or animegirls with huge breasts. None of the motivation behind the people voting for either of those is to further the game or to fleshen out the cast or to bring new fightingstyles into the franchise. Hell actual tekkenplayers will be in such a small majority of voters period. The people that are voting couldn't give two cents about how the character is played they just want to either troll the franchise or have something to jack off to. You can give the internet power but you have to be very careful in doing so and you shouldn't always equate what people want to what is best for your product or sales. Fuck salmons female vampires lolis and zombies. Order optional.

Dear Reality, you seem very upset. Let me first address a few of the misunderstanding you seem to have about me. For one I am happily to inform you that I am very much single and independent and though I may think Chess is a very interesting game. I have yet learn it.

With that said, allow me to apologies if I have offended you. My intentions are honest and I mean not to patronize or belittle you. If I have come off as doing so, than I am truly sorry. However I find it very regretful that you will not engage me in a civil conversation as I fail to see why you are upset.

Yes, you will have to forgive me. I was indeed unsure as to what you're problem was. Like wise I asked if it had anything to do with the female characters. I had no intentions of implying anything that would sound misleading of your opinion. I was hoping for you to correct me on your opinion so that I may reason with you further. An though some Neo Feminist may cry for attention. I can assure you I was not talking about them.

NOW with all that out of the way and now that I do understand what your opinion is. (You agreeing with Turtle.)
Let me say that I do understand your sentiments. My personal opinion on this "voting" is that, just like this game." it is a experiment and nothing more. That is to see what what appeals to the games current fan base is. So I feel pretty neutral about this. I just see it as a excuse to pick up a new character to play with. Hopefully not some animal or joke character.

Friday, July 12, 2013 at 3:33 PM | Unregistered CommenterSlander

I voted for the tekken force female just because the game needs a Krav Maga character.
