Japan Amusement Expo Tekken 7 News Round-Up

As of now, the Japan Amusement Expo is wrapping up after it's two days of operation and news of Tekken 7 have slowly been trickling out by people who got to play it online. I took the liberty of reporting every single finding I could get my hands on in English on my twitter but I figured that once it's over I should organize the information in one post here. If there's anything I missed, feel free to send it to me through twitter or the comments below and I'll add it up.

▌TEKKEN 7 'Pre-Launch' Build
 ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄

The build showcased at the Japan Amusement Expo is the build going to be out in Japanese arcades on February 18th.

It comes with 20 characters, 18 of which we've all seen from previous Tekken 7 Location Test builds plus new characters: Lucky Chloe and Shaheen. Do not fret however if your character is not in initially however, the game will have time release characters which will slowly fill up the game's roster after some time, after the launch of the game.

New Rendering Camera System

In this build, the new rendering camera system has been implemented. Both players can choose to be on the same side or still fight on seperate sides. Before each match in Tekken 7 between players, a new 'choose side' screen appears that gives the player the option.

Newly added into the 'Pre-launch' build is the 'Training Mode' option which I'm sure combo makers in Japan will love. In this mode, there are no life bars and you are put in a stage with a CPU opponent. Currently, there's no timer shown for how long you can stay in the mode.

Additionally, there's also a treasure box option added in the main menu. The button says 'Treasure Box Settings' and points to the Online Match option.

 Tekken 7 Main Menu

Once a battle between 2 players is finished in Tekken 7, there's a new post option screen added in the arcade version. The option on the left is 'REVENGE MATCH' and will allow you to play the same person you were playing again. Think of it as a kind of rematch option that also works in the online matches. The option on the right is to simply exit the game.

Tekken 7 Post Match ScreenOther Game System additions:

Sweat effects have been added into the game. During matches where characters fight a lot, you can notice a small amount of sweat collect on the characters. This is more notice-able during times where the game slows down and zooms in on characters. It's also present during character. victory poses.

A minor addition but the character select screen has newly added red sparks and red haze flying through in the background. This a small addition from the previous build's drab grey background character select screen.

Overall graphic improvements can be seen in the game when compared to previous builds. Harada has mentioned that these are still not yet *100%* final and can still be improved later down the line. It's not too apparent in the stage backgrounds quite yet but can be really easy to see during character introduction poses.

▌The Stages
 ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄

Seen so far are 5 new stages added from the previous Location test builds. The previous builds only had 3 stages in total: The Mishima Dojo, The Jungle Area with the balcony break & a temple- like area with lots of columns and floor breaks. The 'Pre-Launch' builds add 5 new stages into the game: (These names aren't official by the way)

This one can already be seen in the previous 20th Anniversary Tekken 7 trailer. The Refinery with Snow Landscape stage. Infinite stage.

Refinery Arena with Snowy Landscape. The Volcano arena which is a stage made for the Story / final boss of the game.

Volcano area

Remake, Tekken 5's Dragon's Nest stage. This stage has been remade for this game and has newly added weather effects now. You can watch it in motion through the small video.

Tekken 5 Dragon NestVideo:

A small walled arena which is presumably a stage made after Shaheen. You can see this stage in motion through the previous walkthrough video with Hameko and Harada

Shaheen Stage

Lastly, a Rooftop stage. Seems to be another walled arena.

▌ Characters News

Most news about Lucky Chloe and Shaheen can be seen in the previous character walkthrough's by Harada and Hameko.

  • Shaheen: d/f+2,1 is similiar to Ancient Ogre's b+2,1
  • Shaheen: u/f+3 is like Bryan's Orbital Heel.
  • Shaheen: Basic combo notation: d/f+2 or u/f+4 or u/f+3, d+2, f+2,4,4 (tailspin), d/b+2,1
  • Shaheen: d/f+2 is like Lee's d+2 and launches.
  • Shaheen: win quote - 'This victory was inevitable.'
  • Shaheen: Low pickup for combos with 4,1. An airborne opponent→ 4,1→ f+2,4,4 (tailspin)→ ff+3
  • Shaheen: Tall character, slightly taller then Lars.
  • Lucky Chloe: d/f+1+2 is exactly like Eddy's and Christie's. She seemingly has some moves that are Capoiera-like.
  • Lucky Chloe: Her 2P color outfit is a light blue for when both players pick Lucky Chloe.
  • Lucky Chloe: Her Rage Art starts with a low hit. To do the max damage with the RA, you have to time the button press after the hit in the animation.
  • Hwoarang: d/f+3 has been replaced with Baek's d/f+3,4. Hwoarang can cancel it like Baek can.
  • Hwoarang: Left Flamingo f+3 has been changed to Baek's Flamingo f+3.
  • Hwoarang can't go into Flamingo stance after RFF 3~4 anymore. ("Backlash" move. Hwoarang players would combo with it after a JFSR)
  • Hwoarang: 2nd hit of Right Flamingo d+4,4 (the high) has been removed. Maybe replaced?
  • Dragunov: The combo: d/f+2→ f+4,4,3→ f+1→ f+1+2 (tailspin)→ continue - now works.
  • Dragunov: b+1,2 has been made into a tailspin/kirimomi move.

▌ The Final Boss

Kazumi! There's not much footage of her available right now but there's been some reports.

  • Her character intro pose has her entering the battle on her pet tiger.
  • The tiger is some kind of spiritual summon and she can channel the pet into a projectile in the match.
  • Her fight has two phases. The first is her in normal outfit (seen above) then the 2nd phase has her clothing change to all black, sprouting dark feathers and looking like a dark phoenix.
  • Kazumi has the basic Mishima 1,1,2 and 1,2,2 moves.
  • She has Jinpachi's floating u/f+3+4 however it's not known right now if she has follow ups to it.
  • A move that's similar to Jinpachi's d/b+2,1. (Low, high)
  • No Electric Wind God Fist spotted yet.
  • Her Devil form has Lazer attacks. She has one where she flys up and shoots directly down then moves it upwards like Devil Jin's air lazer attack. However her's doesn't have the longer recovery animation on landing that Devil Jin has so it recovers like Devil Kazuya's air Lazer attack.

Small footage: (Go to 1:53 - 1:59 to see regular Kazumi)

Japan Amusement Expo has just concluded but it won't be a long wait for more Tekken 7 related news. Harada is doing a special 'Just before T7 Launch' niconico broadcast with Hameko on the upcoming Monday (Feb. 16) In it they'll go over the game, Harada will be interviewed on topics like the competitive scene (Evo 2015, Tekken Crash revival etc), making the series and answer questions from the stream.

Tekken 7 'Pre-Launch' Edition will release in Japanese arcades on February 18th.

Thanks for you amazing work, Wonkey! All your hard work is very much appreciated! If it hadn't been for you, we would know next to nothing about T7.

Also, Kazumi being the final boss was pretty much given.

Wow, so based on the revenge match option, all the machines in one arcade are actually linked to each other? So you can actually fight with any other machine?

Damn, that's a nice summary based Wonkey. Thank you

@Dragnken

What makes you say that?

OMG Kazumi is Kaguya from naruto! In case no one knew who kaguya was, she was... OK, ok the story of naruto is complicated same for tekken. I just cant explain it briefly, but since Naruto games are Namco's property its OK for them to copy story elements from that series. So I guess kazumi herself is just added. Not intended for the storyline since the beginning.

Hwoarang: 2nd hit of RFF d+4,4 (the high) has been removed. Maybe replaced?">

This is probably LFF than RFF. RFF d+4 is the foot stomp and has no combo.

@Redman

Hwoa has some of his moves now, that probably means he will be gone. Back then in T4 King had a lot of AK moves, and he was removed too. I like the old guy, but he's not really popular, so it makes sense, Namco need to cut the roster.

Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 2:20 AM | Unregistered CommenterDragonken

@Dragonken, if you go by that logic than it's safe to say that characters from which moves aren't borrowed will definitely be in the game?

Thanks, Wonkey!

I'd like to see a flying Honkey on a donkey, ok Wonkey?

Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 6:06 AM | Unregistered CommenterJ1N

@ Dragonken

For something to be "official", it has been confirmed by an offical source.

Also, Hwo has ALWAYS had moves from Baek's movelist.

Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 5:45 PM | Unregistered Commenterjanxspirit

Is it the extension of Hwo's RFS d+4,4 or normal d+4,4 which is gone? Whats the original Japanese say?

Monday, February 16, 2015 at 6:48 AM | Unregistered CommenterCarmen

Oh it's Right Flamingo stance, sorry my bad.

I'm not a Hwoarang player so forgive me If I get the stances mixed up.

@janxspirit

He has some of Baek's key moves now, not some common stuff, like Hunting Hawk, SR, or something.

I don't think Baek is gone. If so, what will be done about the diehard Baek players like myself? Learning Hwoarang is a difficult task man. Who are we supposed to pick up next? It wouldn't make sense to shun Baek players so easily man! I will believe Baek is gone when I hear it from Harada. There are a lot of other character that you don't see either that had fans so let's not jump to conclusions here. It almost like people want to see Baek players left out of the fun and neglected....

So when does the game come out on console? Yawn
