Tekken 7 Sales Exceed 2.5 Million Units Over this Past Year

[Article Retraction 1/1/18] The original version of this post originally stated that Tekken 7 had exceeded 3 million copies. Upon double checking the source, this has turned out to be incorrect. The actual number of figures sold were mentioned during KawaiiFaceMiles & MainMan's Tekken Talk stream to be over 2.5 million. The thing mentioned in 4Gamer was that Tekken 7 was fast approaching the 3 million mark, not that it already exceeded it. Apologies for the misinformation, the link to the original post has now be deleted.

The Japanese gaming site 4Gamer is doing their brief year-end interview with notable figures in the Japanese gaming industry to give us updates and comments to make over the next coming year. Katsuhiro Harada was again one of the people featured and was able to give us a sales update for home versions of Tekken 7. According to him, Tekken 7 saw over 2 million copies sold within the first 2 months after its launch back in June but that figure is now fast approaching the 3 million copies landmark after half a year. He also mentioned that for this time around, Tekken 7 has seen the most post launch support from the series and hopes to be able to continue updating it and giving the title support for the next year. If you have any kind of requests to make about what you hope to see in Tekken 7 in the future, you can tweet them to Harada directly at @Harada_TEKKEN. You might see some Japanese on his timeline but he says don't be shy to tweet the suggestions in English too if you happen to have them. His notable game and movie for the year happened to be Super Mario Odyssey (Nintendo Switch) and Atomic Blonde (2017) by the way.

The retailer specific items includes a PlayStation theme, T-shirts, card stickers, acrylic Key holders, posters and even customization items from the arcade version of the game for the console release. 95% of Tekken Console Sales are from Outside Japan

That figure of Tekken console players also don't have access to the game as it turns out. Harada gave a closer breakdown of the console Tekken franchise sales figure with listing Europe > United States > Asia & Oceania > Japan. There's not much commentary to add to this so here's the source from Siliconera.

Tekken 3 Sold 8.3 Million Worldwide

Just a random, little bit of sales info on Tekken 3 that the series director: Katsuhiro Harada dropped on Twitter that I thought that some might be interested in. In the tweet, Harada mentions that the home ports (PS1 versions) of Tekken 3 sold 8,360,000 worldwide and that 1,400,000 of which is from Japan alone. I think this puts Tekken 3 as the second most best selling fighting game title of all time which is just underneath Super Smash Bros. Brawl. (iirc SSBB > Tekken 3 > SSBM > SF2:WW > Tekken 2)
