Putting the Complexity of Tekken into Perspective

Tekken is an incredibly complex game and it's all due to its gameplay design which allows players such a huge scope of possible interactions. A key component that Tekken owes to its incredible depth is the gameplay mechanic of being able to cancel a huge amount of animation states and movement to formulate your unique game plan. In Tekken, the most difficult and intrinsic ability to train and elevate yourself as a competitor is a thorough understanding of the movement system with its ability to cancel any kind of movement action into other actions. It is also the most frustrating thing in Tekken as a new player to come to grips with and wrestle with since understanding and practicing all the possible movement options in the neutral allows you to avoid getting hit by enemy attacks. To really home in on the sheer complexity of Tekken, recent modding efforts on PC Tekken 7 has given us Finite State images of every possible animation state available to a character. Or to put it more simply, a big scary flowchart of every possible thing you can do or find yourself in Tekken 7. The finite state visuals below come courtesy of the modder @Dantarion and really puts into perspective of how incredibly complex a game Tekken is.

Japanese Players Yuu, Nobi & Take Share Their Tekken 7 Tier Lists

Yuu, Nobi & Take of Mushin Tekken are back with Volume #2 of their Tekken Attack YouTube show. This volume discusses their thoughts on the game balance and character ranking so they do discuss which characters in the game do better than others. They took turns creating the character lists in the background but then later pool their thoughts together to come up with their placings for the tier list. The Tier Lists listed here are for arcade Tekken 7 Fated Retribution and is current as of May 2017. That being said, the console version of Tekken 7 does differ from arcade T7FR balancing wise so there's that to factor in going into the console release. For now, check out Yuu, Nobi & Take's thoughts on a tier list.

Findings from Noodalls - The New DS4 Pads have more Lag Wired than Wireless

For those who aren't familiar, Noodalls is an old legend that's famous around parts like Tekken Zaibatsu for testing out and figuring the data behind input devices and when they gets processed and displayed on screen. So he's been a pretty resourceful guy and you can look at some of things he's done in the past like getting down complete frame data for the Capoieras in TTT2 and reporting frame data values for Hit Confirms to know he is reliable. His recent input testing finds seems to reveal an odd peculiarity with the new Dualshock 4 Pads that come with the PS4 Slim. It seems that while the pads are wireless, they bring up a better response time in game then the pad communicating to the system with a wired connection & USB settings on. This may be useful info to know if you happen to be a pad player. You can see his extensive result findings as well as YouTube videos that go over his testing methodology over on his Twitter & YouTube.

Tekken 7 FR - Feng Combo Damage Notes from Nekosuke (Ver. D)

Japanese Feng player Nekosuke recently got around to testing out the damage values of a bunch of different Feng combos and punishers at an arcade. It costs additional money on top of the coin you put into the T7FR machine for access to all this data in the Premium Practice mode so it's good info from someone who 'took the bullet' for us so to speak. All these notes were posted from his Twitter account in images but I've transcribed them all into our notation system for us to read. You can catch the sources over on Nekosuke's Twitter account.
