Day 1 of Geese Howard's Release; What's Working and What's Not

The Goose is loose everyone. The new character has just arrived and the flow of streams, notes, combo clips and more are pouring in. While it is Day 1, there's already hours of live content to dig into if you're looking at how people are finding the new guest character. I'll start by posting some of the more brief and interesting clips out there and should you be interested in watching more of Geese, you can watch the Day 1 Geese Howard streams from the community. The Tekken Bot frame data display for the PC has stopped working as of this patch unfortunately but here are some frame data documents floating around to use as a resource in the meantime. Enjoy.

Tekken 7 PC - TekkenBot Frame Data Overlay

Oh here we go, a working frame data overlay for Tekken 7 PC! Dubbed the 'TekkenBot Frame Data Overlay', this standalone program will locate the running Tekken 7 game and overlay very helpful frame data info while you play for your character and the opponent. It includes frame advantage, hit type, startup, and the number of active frames for the last performed move so this will really help you out in getting up to speed with a lot moves players may be abusing against you. The overlay is a transparent window so it currently only works in windowed or borderless windowed mode so be sure to set that up before using it. Added below this post is a video of the overlay that Roguelike made and it goes into more details about it so be sure to check it out. The frame data overlay is very early in development so be sure to note that there might be some errors or bugs. Big thanks goes to Rogue2dlike for releasing the frame data overlay, you can download it for yourself over on hit GitHub!

Putting the Complexity of Tekken into Perspective

Tekken is an incredibly complex game and it's all due to its gameplay design which allows players such a huge scope of possible interactions. A key component that Tekken owes to its incredible depth is the gameplay mechanic of being able to cancel a huge amount of animation states and movement to formulate your unique game plan. In Tekken, the most difficult and intrinsic ability to train and elevate yourself as a competitor is a thorough understanding of the movement system with its ability to cancel any kind of movement action into other actions. It is also the most frustrating thing in Tekken as a new player to come to grips with and wrestle with since understanding and practicing all the possible movement options in the neutral allows you to avoid getting hit by enemy attacks. To really home in on the sheer complexity of Tekken, recent modding efforts on PC Tekken 7 has given us Finite State images of every possible animation state available to a character. Or to put it more simply, a big scary flowchart of every possible thing you can do or find yourself in Tekken 7. The finite state visuals below come courtesy of the modder @Dantarion and really puts into perspective of how incredibly complex a game Tekken is.

Japanese Players Yuu, Nobi & Take Share Their Tekken 7 Tier Lists

Yuu, Nobi & Take of Mushin Tekken are back with Volume #2 of their Tekken Attack YouTube show. This volume discusses their thoughts on the game balance and character ranking so they do discuss which characters in the game do better than others. They took turns creating the character lists in the background but then later pool their thoughts together to come up with their placings for the tier list. The Tier Lists listed here are for arcade Tekken 7 Fated Retribution and is current as of May 2017. That being said, the console version of Tekken 7 does differ from arcade T7FR balancing wise so there's that to factor in going into the console release. For now, check out Yuu, Nobi & Take's thoughts on a tier list.

Findings from Noodalls - The New DS4 Pads have more Lag Wired than Wireless

For those who aren't familiar, Noodalls is an old legend that's famous around parts like Tekken Zaibatsu for testing out and figuring the data behind input devices and when they gets processed and displayed on screen. So he's been a pretty resourceful guy and you can look at some of things he's done in the past like getting down complete frame data for the Capoieras in TTT2 and reporting frame data values for Hit Confirms to know he is reliable. His recent input testing finds seems to reveal an odd peculiarity with the new Dualshock 4 Pads that come with the PS4 Slim. It seems that while the pads are wireless, they bring up a better response time in game then the pad communicating to the system with a wired connection & USB settings on. This may be useful info to know if you happen to be a pad player. You can see his extensive result findings as well as YouTube videos that go over his testing methodology over on his Twitter & YouTube.
